Community
Harvest had many helping hands this week from the sisters of Delta Gamma and
Kappa Alpha Theta, and the brothers of Sigma Phi Epsilon. Community Garden
members brought a plethora of vegetables: brussel sprouts, lettuce, carrots,
baby tomatoes, romanesco, and purple cauliflower.
We started out by preparing the
brussel sprouts (in the red bowls) which were baked in garlic and butter.
The salad came together nicely, and
by the end was full of color.
The DG girls helped process
eggplants to be stored for future use. They were chopped up and frozen so
Community Harvest can serve them during winter, when the Garden is no longer
yielding delicious produce.
The gentlemen from Sig Ep sliced
apples fresh from the produce auction. They made baked cinnamon apples that
were served for dinner along with chicken sandwiches, chicken noodle soup, the
brussel sprouts, and the salad.
The brothers as well as the girls
helped serve dinner to a little over 90 people. It was a full house with very
few leftovers.
Community Harvest will continue to
come up with creative meals from donated resources as winter arrives!
